Police and armed forces ‘interfering’ in electoral process 2014
Police and armed forces interfering
in electoral process
2014
Police and armed forces are “interfering in the electoral process, and do not allow Hamdeen Sabbahi campaign representatives access to polling stations except after checking their endorsements” Sabbahi’s campaign said in Monday press statement
The statement said this violates Articles 27 and 30 of the presidential elections law, which only authorize the judges at polling stations to check endorsements
“The campaign urges the Ministry of Defense and Ministry of Interior to direct their forces, who are responsible for securing the polling stations, to respect law in order to guarantee that the electoral process go smoothly” the statement continued
Article 30 of the Presidential elections law states that each presidential candidate can assign one representative to each polling station as long as they inform the polling station two days before the election
The presence of police and armed forces is prohibited inside polling stations
A witness in Damietta told The Cairo Post she saw several police officers inside polling stations, especially in the villages
