Consumer Protection Agency refers Etisalat Egypt
to the public prosecution2013
The head of the Consumer Protection Agency, Major General Atef Yacoup said that the referral came after the agency received a complaint from one consumer
The consumer said that he received a message that his number is nominated to win 50,000 EGPif he sends a message once only to the number 5050 at the cost of3 EGP. However, the message that was sent was followed by automatic follow-up messages, which led to the depletion of his credit
This was done without showing the customer any data or consumption details
Yacoup added that the agency asked the Ministry of Solidarity whether the company has a license from the ministry to hold this competition
The Ministry of Solidarity replied by confirming that Etisalat Egypt does not hold a license for the competition
Yacoup urged all customers to come forward with complaints to the agency in regards to anything that does not take the customer’s interests and rights into account
